Do I need dance experience to attend?
Not at all. Many guests come simply to listen, watch the featured performance, eat well, and take in the room. After the program, the floor opens — you are welcome to dance, sit it out, or anything in between.

A few things guests have wanted to know before joining us under the lanterns.
What is raqs sharqi?
Raqs sharqi means "dance of the East," the classical solo improvised tradition of Egypt and the wider Arab world that some Western audiences know as bellydance. It is technical, expressive, and deeply musical, built on isolations, layered movement, and conversation with the music.
What should I wear?
There is no dress code. Many guests dress up — sequins, scarves, jewel tones — and others come in their everyday best. Comfortable shoes you can move in are a good idea if you plan to dance. Hip scarves are provided should you want to borrow one for social dancing fun!
Will there be food and drink?
Yes. Marrakesh DC offers an optional buffet for a flat fee of $45, paid upon arrival. There is no à la carte menu during the Hafla, but almost everything on the regular menu is available on the buffet. Children aged 7 and under eat free, and children aged 8 to 12 are charged half price. Drinks are not included and should be ordered separately from the full bar.
How much does it cost? How do I get a ticket?
The event is FREE to attend, and there is no ticket to purchase, but all guests must reserve a table. The optional buffet is $45 per adult, paid upon arrival. Children aged 7 and under eat free, and children aged 8 to 12 are charged half price. Drinks are ordered and paid for separately at the bar. Tips for the dancers are encouraged and expected, to show your appreciation for their hard work in bringing you their artistry!
How do I make a reservation?
All reservations are made directly with Marrakesh DC. Call the restaurant at (202) 999-8980 to book your table for the Hafla. The Hafla itself is free to attend. The optional buffet is paid upon arrival, and drinks are ordered separately from the bar.
Can I bring a friend or partner?
Please do. The Hafla is a community gathering and we love a full room. Forward the signup link so they receive the announcement at the same time you do.
Is the Hafla 21+?
No — the Hafla is all ages and everyone is welcome. Marrakesh DC serves alcohol in accordance with DC law, so guests aged 21 and over will need to show a valid ID to be served.
Where do I park? Is there Metro?
Marrakesh DC is at 1331 H Street NW. Metered street parking is available on H, G, 13th, and 14th Streets NW — most downtown meters are free on Sundays, but please read the posted signs. Several commercial garages sit within a two to three block walk, including the Franklin Square area and the Metropolitan Square garages around 13th and G. The nearest Metro stops are Metro Center and McPherson Square, each about a five minute walk.
